How to Merge PDF Files on Your Mobile Phone (Android and iPhone)

Combine several PDFs into one file on your Android phone or iPhone in a browser, without installing an app or uploading your documents.

You have your Aadhaar in one PDF, a bank statement in another and three certificate scans in separate files, and the form wants a single PDF. On a computer this is easy, but most people in India do their paperwork on a phone. The good news is that you can merge PDFs on Android or iPhone in a browser in under a minute, without installing an app, creating an account or uploading your documents to a stranger's server.

What you need

  • An Android phone with Chrome, or an iPhone/iPad with Safari or Chrome. Any recent version works.
  • The PDF files saved on your phone, in Downloads, the Files app, Google Drive or iCloud Drive.
  • An internet connection to open the page. After that, merging happens offline on your device.

Merge PDFs on Android

  1. Open Chrome and go to Merge PDF.
  2. Tap the upload area. Android shows a file picker; tap the menu (โ˜ฐ) to switch between Downloads, Drive and other locations.
  3. Select several files at once with a long press on the first file, then tap the others. Or add them one by one; you can keep adding more.
  4. The files appear as cards. Drag them into the order you need. The first card becomes the first pages of the merged PDF.
  5. Tap Merge, then download. Chrome saves the file to Downloads and shows a notification you can tap to open it.

Merge PDFs on iPhone or iPad

  1. Open Safari and go to Merge PDF.
  2. Tap the upload area and choose Browse to open the Files app. PDFs from Mail or WhatsApp must be saved to Files first: open the PDF, tap Share, then Save to Files.
  3. Tap Select in the top corner to choose several PDFs at once, then tap Open.
  4. Arrange the order, tap Merge and download. Safari asks whether to view or download; choose download, and the file appears in Files โ†’ Downloads.

Getting the order right

Forms and offices usually expect a logical order: application form or covering letter first, then ID proof, then address proof, then certificates from the oldest to the newest. If a single file contains pages in the wrong order, merge first and then rearrange individual pages with Organize PDF, which shows every page as a thumbnail you can drag, rotate or delete.

Merging photos and PDFs together

Often one of the documents is not a PDF at all but a photo in your gallery. You have two options:

  • Use Merge PDF and Image, which accepts PDFs and JPG/PNG photos in the same list and turns each photo into a page.
  • Or convert the photos first with JPG to PDF, then merge. Our JPG to PDF guide explains page size and margin settings that make photos look like proper scanned pages.

The merged file is too large

Merging adds the sizes of all files together, so five 400 KB scans become a 2 MB PDF. If the portal has a limit, run the merged file through Compress PDF, or a fixed-target tool like Compress PDF to 200 KB. It usually works better to compress once at the end than to compress each file separately before merging. See our full guide on reaching 100 KB or 200 KB for tips when the file refuses to shrink.

Troubleshooting on mobile

"The file can't be opened" or one PDF is skipped

That PDF is probably password protected. Bank statements and some e-documents are locked with a password such as part of your name and date of birth. If you know the password, unlock it with Unlock PDF and then merge.

The page reloads or the browser crashes

Phones have limited memory. Merging ten small files is fine; merging several 50 MB scanned books may not be. Close other tabs and apps, merge in two batches, then merge the two results.

I can't find the downloaded file

On Android, open the Files app โ†’ Downloads, or Chrome menu โ†’ Downloads. On iPhone, open Files โ†’ Browse โ†’ Downloads. Some phones put downloads inside a "Chrome" folder.

WhatsApp shows the file as a document with no preview

That is normal for PDFs. The receiver can tap it to open. If it must be shown as a picture, convert the pages with PDF to JPG.

Why merging in the browser is safer

Documents you merge for applications usually contain your address, phone number, ID numbers and sometimes bank details. Many "free PDF" apps upload files to a cloud server and keep them for hours or longer, and some app versions request access to all your photos and contacts. Merging in the browser with Ocr4you keeps files on your phone: the page's code runs locally and creates the merged PDF in your phone's memory. Nothing is sent to us, and there is no app permission to grant.

Quick recap

  1. Open Merge PDF in your phone's browser.
  2. Select all files and drag them into order.
  3. Merge, download, open and check every page.
  4. Compress if the portal has a size limit.
